Curious about investigating non-traditional methods of paintings and inspired by action paintings advocated by Nikki de St.Phalle, Yves Klein and Jackson Pollock, I explored new ways of creating a work of art.

Specifically interested in themes of accumulation, colour and leaving a mark, I looked at different techniques to create my abstract paintings.

My process is a very meticulous one: I carefully select the colours and choose the desired quantity of paint I want to use. And then through different chosen vehicles, the paint is liberated and erupts everywhere. It’s an explosion of colours dripping, bleeding onto the surface and going even beyond the frame, spilling over the four edges of the canvas.

Whilst I have control over the technique, I do not control the outcome: the splatter of paint can go anywhere and everywhere. There is no exact science to the end result, it is a sort of game where the rules are clearly stated but there is an element of chance and unknown.

Whether through a rainbow of colours or a monochrome, the painting slowly starts to take shape and come alive. As the painting builds up, there is an intensity and energy that comes through the different layers of projected paint, revealing different textures and shapes.

Through these mysterious shapes that begin to tell a story, I want to draw the viewer in, taking them on a visual journey and creating sensations enabling them to get lost in the textures. The viewers can then decide themselves what the different elements represent. Each interpretation is unique.
